In an increasingly crowded retail landscape, Black Friday campaigns are no longer about discounts alone — they’re about experience, innovation, and digital activation. In 2023, Burger King Brazil partnered with The King Working to create a campaign that would break through the noise, drive mobile engagement, and convert digital interactions into real revenue.
The result was “Shake & In”, an interactive mobile campaign where users could literally shake their phones to unlock exclusive deals through the Burger King app. What started as a playful gesture became a viral gamified mechanic, turning passive users into active participants — and transforming the Burger King app into one of the most engaging digital platforms of the Black Friday season.
The campaign was a massive success: over R$1 billion in revenue generated, record-breaking app usage, and widespread brand buzz. The King Working was behind the UX/UI experience, front-end app integration, creative strategy, and performance planning that made it all possible.
Burger King needed a bold, tech-driven idea that could scale across the country, boost app engagement, and feel fun and unexpected. The King Working co-created the concept of “Shake & In”, where users would open the Burger King app, shake their phones, and receive a surprise product or offer — ranging from a free Whopper to limited-time combo deals.
We started by mapping out the entire user journey, ensuring that the experience was seamless, responsive, and instantly gratifying. Our UX/UI team designed animated screens, reward transitions, and user flows that balanced simplicity with visual delight. Every interaction was optimized for mobile behavior and structured to minimize drop-off.
From a technical standpoint, we worked alongside BK’s app development team to integrate the shake detection feature, programmed to respond in real time and trigger backend logic for randomized rewards. We helped define parameters such as reward frequency, time windows, and inventory limits — ensuring both performance and business viability.
On the creative side, The King Working developed the visual identity of the campaign, key visual assets, and micro-animations, translating the energy of the “Shake” mechanic into a digital language that aligned with Burger King’s bold tone of voice.
To scale the campaign, we also supported media and performance teams with creative assets for paid media, including social ads, influencer kits, and app store visuals. The message was simple: Shake. Win. Enjoy.
All of this was done within a fast-paced, high-stakes environment — balancing creativity, user experience, and technical rigor in a campaign that had national reach.
